United News   The "Nick Cooper" Branch Player Of The Season Award
Branch News
Membership Info

Throughout the duration of the Premiership,European and domestic Cup Campaigns, United supporters go up to Old Trafford to watch Manchester United play as many home games as possible. During these home league games that the supporters from our branch go up to watch, they have to choose who they thought was the most outstanding player for the particular game that they were watching. The votes are made at the end of the game on the coach journey back down to Devon. The votes are counted, and the result for that game is announced once they have been tallied up.

At the end of the season, all of the votes are collected and tallied up, and a result is finalised. During the annual AGM meeting held before the start of the next campaign, the player of the season as voted for by the North Devon Supporters, is announced to all of the members who attend the meeting. The player with the most votes at the end of the premiership season, is given an award by the supporters club during the following season, to recognise their performance and commitment to the football club throughout the whole of last season. It is possible, however not certain that during the season, members of the supporters club will be given the chance to meet the player of the season when the award is given to that particular player.

Finally, it leads us on to announce that The "Nick Cooper" North Devon Branch Player Of The Season for the 2006/2007 Season is .............

    Cristiano Ronaldo - Player of Season 2006 / 2007

Cristiano has a habit of terrorizing the opposition, with his terific pace skill and the unlimited bag of tricks he has at his disposal.
Cristiano was the most consistent player through the whole of last season. .

Cristiano Ronaldo has been named the Branch player of the season for last season. Ever since the World Cup quarter finals in Germany, a truly defining moment, England v Portugal Cristiano was blamed for Wayne Rooneys sending off and Englands exit from the tournament. Some wondered if he would ever return to Manchester. But Sir Alex's calming words assured him after all it'd had happend to United no 7's before with Eric Cantona in 1995 and David beckham in 1998. The best players respond to adversity, and he did just that.

United's title success was undoubtly a team effort, but one player was central to every major plotline. It began with a barnstorming 5-1 win over Fulham- Ronaldo and Rooney running the show and very publicy rubbishing claime that the two were at odds. Dazzling wing play was backed up with regular assists and crucial goals, including seven in five games over Christmas then a last gasp winner at Fulham. His form bought renewed interest from Spain but United no 7 signed a new 5 year deal which will keep him at United untill 2012 saying " i'm happy here" He has also claimed 14 intervidual awards including the Players Player and football writers Player of the year awards and more crucially his first Premiership medal. The soundtrack to Cristianos campaign may of started with a chorus of boos but it ended with cacophonous applause

Well done Cristiano, for being voted the "Nick Cooper" North Devon Branch - Player of The Season. 2006/2007
